How to Build a Larger Social Media Audience

Building a larger social media audience was the topic today on the Morning Grind, a daily Facebook Live show that provides fun and entertainment. We had the privilege of having Jim McCarthy, an expert in broadcasting and media production and owner of McCarthy Media, in GTT Studios. He is an expert when it comes to teaching people about social media.

When it comes to social media, you must know and understand your core beliefs (the ingredients you to need to possess) in order to build a deeper social media following. “First, and foremost, it is understanding that it is less about you and more about your viewers. It is always about your audience” Jim McCarthy. He coins the phrase as “Be Them Centric.”

#BeThemCentric means that whenever you post to social media, it needs to grab your audience attention. They need to stop and take a moment to read it. Ask yourself, are you posting for the sake of posting or are you giving you value to your audience.

Gary Vanderchuck says you should always be jabbing and hooking. What that means is you are providing value by “give, give, give and then ask.” You want to build trust, tell the story, and then hook them. In real estate, we strive to position the audience emotionally with a house that we are selling. Giving facts about a house for sale, does not move your audience to buy. Its relational selling.

Jim believes that it takes 5 to 7 months to truly build a bigger, deeper, organic tribe of followers. In order to grab that audience, you have to be persistently consistent. You have to be real, you have to be you, and you have to be completely real and honest.

Remember, it takes patience. Stay in the game. Be persistent. Focus on your audience, Them-Centric. Don’t be fake, your audience will know. Earn the trust of your audience. Watch and listen to your content and critique yourself.
